Washington DC has some great coffee shops and some not so great ones. If you’re like me, your coffee standards are high and it’s not something you want to mess with ;) So I’ve tested and tried tons in the area and I these are my absolute favorites - for the coffee quality/taste and the vibe.

Best Coffee Shops Near Washington DC

The first and last (Blue Bottle & Maman) are my absolute favorites and the rest are in no particular order.

1. Blue Bottle

The BEST coffee in DC, in my opinion. Their espresso drinks (I get the cappuccino) and pour overs are SO good.

  • Vibe: minimal, bright, modern

  • Neighborhood: Georgetown or Union Market

  • Remote working: Yes (Georgetown location); it gets busy but there’s a good amount of seating.

2. Rare Bird

My other ride or die coffee shop ;) The espresso drinks are really good and it has a cozy, neighborhood feel to it.

  • Vibe: cozy, local, a little hipster

  • Neighborhood: Falls Church

  • Remote working: Yes; it gets busy but there’s a good amount of seating.

3. Slipstream

I really like the coffee here. It’s not quite as good as Blue Bottle or Rare Bird but you can get a good quality cup here :)

  • Vibe: not sure how to describe this one…it’s just normal LOL.

  • Neighborhood: Logan Circle, Navy Yard, Downtown, Ballston

  • Remote working: Not ideal, little seating.

4. Simona

Adorable coffee shop with a cute patio with string lights! The coffee is also great and comes in super beautiful mugs!

  • Vibe: minimal, cute

  • Neighborhood: Arlington

  • Remote working: Yes but seating is pretty limited.

5. La Colombe

Most of the time, the coffee is great (there’s been a few times it wasn’t consistent and didn’t taste good though). The oat milk draft iced latte is really yummy and what their known for.

  • Vibe: rustic, modern, hip

  • Neighborhood: Blagden Alley, Chinatown, 14th Street, Noma, Downtown, Union Market

  • Remote working: You could but there’s not a lot of seating.

6. Colada

Cuban cafe with great coffee!

  • Vibe: cute, colorful, casual

  • Neighborhood: The Wharf, 14th Street, Dupont Circle, Mosaic District

  • Remote working: Not ideal because it’s more of a restaurant but you could

  • Instagram: @coladashop

7. Bluestone lane

The coffee is usually good but it has been hit or miss a couple times!

  • Vibe: bright, plants, clean

  • Neighborhood: Georgetown, West End, Dupont Circle, Navy Yard, Logan Circle & a few others

  • Remote working: Yes - the West End location is best

8. Blank Street Coffee

Great quality coffee! Best for grab and go - not sitting.

  • Vibe: simple, minimal

  • Neighborhood: 14th Street, The Wharf, Dupont Circle, Shaw

  • Remote working: No

9. Northside Social

Northside has a really local, community feel to it! I haven’t had the coffee but had to put it on the list because the vibe is really nice for working or grabbing coffee/lunch.

  • Vibe: local, cozy, community

  • Neighborhood: Arlington, Falls Church

  • Remote working: Yes

  • Instagram: @northsidesocial

10. Tatte

The coffee is pretty good and the vibe is 10/10 and the food is amazing (I love the short rib cous cous bowl especially). This is a great spot for when you want coffee and lunch.

  • Vibe: cute, trendy, lots of natural light

  • Neighborhood: Old Town Alexandria, West End, Dupont Circle, Clarendon, Foggy Bottom

  • Remote working: Yes; it gets busy but there’s a good amount of seating. Also, since it’s more of a sit down place with food, it can be louder than a normal coffee shop.

  • Remote working: Yes; Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria - both have a decent amount of seating.
