Things to Do In Lagos, Portugal
Overall vibe of Lagos, Portugal:
Lagos is a laid-back town on the southern coast of Portugal. It’s famous for it’s coast lines and beautiful cliffs and rock formations. It was our least favorite place on our 2.5 week Europe trip and it seemed a place for people in their young 20’s to party. We were surprised that none of the travel blogs we researched mentioned this. So if you’re here, I’m glad you’re getting an honest opinion. It’s not BAD by any means; we just enjoyed the other places on our trip a lot more. I’d recommend the stops on this Portugal road trip itinerary instead! If you already have plans to go to Lagos or want to use it as a home-base to explore other parts of the southern coast, I wanted to share the spots we really enjoyed while there.

Where we stayed:
Casa Mae (Instagram: @casamae): I have mixed feelings about this place. The aesthetics, pool and overall vibe were 10/10 but something about the energy was off. I don’t know how else to describe it - I think it was partly that the service didn’t match the instagrammable, luxury vibe they were trying to portray. The pros were that the bathtub in the room was great and the pool is quite nice and relaxing.
Where to eat:
Poke Lagos (Instagram: @poke_lagos): good, casual spot to get a poke bowl!
The Green Room (Instagram: @lagosgreenroom): Cool, laid back, delicious Mexican restaurant. The birra tacos were SOOOO good!! It’s cash only FYI.
Where to get coffee:
Coffee & Waves (Instagram: @coffee.waves): Really good coffee…and they have Oatly (in case you’re an oat milk snob like me).
Other things to do:
Hike/walk along the coastline: there’s a lot of places you can walk along the coast but the most beautiful part we saw was around Miradouro Da Praia Do Canavial. I would just use google maps to start there then walk from there!
Praia da Arrifana: This beach is absolutely breathtaking; I literally cried tears of gratitude/joy when I saw it. There’s a lot of local surfers here which was fun to watch!
Opaulo: AMAZING, fresh seafood restaurant in Arrifana with beautiful views of the ocean!!
Praia da Amoreira: This beach is also breathtaking and is super unique because the beach intersects and connects with a beautiful river. You can hang out on the beach or hang out along the long stretches of sand that run along the river.
