The Complete Milos, Greece Travel Guide
Overall vibe of Milos, Greece:
Milos, Greece is one of the most magical places I’ve ever been. There’s so much to do and see in Milos - beautiful unique beaches, delicious restaurants, cute little towns, boat trips and more! It’s a bit quieter than some of the more popular islands like Santorini and Mykonos but still has a lively, fun feel to it.
We went at the end of August. It was HOT AND HUMID AF in the day but it wasn’t really an issue since we had the car and spent most of our time at different beaches. After sunset, the weather was perfect for outdoor dinners and walking around. We got lucky and it wasn’t windy when we went (apparently August is usually very windy).
Quick Guide to Milos, Greece:
Overall vibe: laid back Greek Island with tons of beautiful beaches
How long to stay: 3-6 nights
Where to stay: Pollonia or Plaka
Getting around: rent a car (or ATV but we really liked having the car to really explore the Island) and use Ferry Hopper to island hop

How long to stay in Milos, Greece:
We stayed in Milos for 3 nights which was perfect for us, although it’s definitely a place I could spend up to a week or more on (we were told there’s over 70+ beaches just on Milos alone!).
Where to stay:
We stayed at The Melian in Pollonia and absolutely loved it. It’s a beautiful boutique hotel on the water and the complimentary breakfast was such a treat - they delivered it to our patio overlooking the ocean every morning. The hotel has a small plunge pool which we definitely enjoyed and an amazing restaurant (we got the pappardelle with truffle, sea bass and rocket salad and IT WAS ALL SO GOOD). The staff was super helpful and even arranged a rental car for us to be delivered right to the hotel so we didn’t have to go pick it up.
Pollonia is an adorable, quaint town with cute restaurants and cafes and a beach (the beach here isn’t the best but it does give the town a nice, laid back vibe). It was an ideal location for us because it was close to a lot of the adventures we wanted to do but it wasn’t in a super busy, touristy area.
The other area I’d recommend staying is Plaka. Plaka was a more “typical” Greece town with the white buildings on cliffs, pink flowers and cute little streets with cafes and shops. We absolutely loved wandering around Plaka and catching the sunset at the Venetian Castle. Wear comfy shoes in Plaka because it’s very hilly!
I personally wouldn't stay in Adamas - this was definitely the most touristy, busy part of town which usually isn’t our favorite vibe.
Getting around:
I’d highly recommend renting a car in Milos - there is so much to see and explore including tons of magical beaches and cute towns!! Our hotel, The Melian, arranged a car for us with a company called Avance but Kayak also has good options and is easy to use. The cars in Greece are tiny and the roads aren’t all well developed FYI.
Where to eat and drink:
The Melian (Instagram: @melianhotel): the restaurant at this luxury, boutique hotel in Pollonia is amazing (this is also where we stayed). It is the perfect spot for a really nice sunset dinner overlooking beautiful views of the ocean. We got the sea bass, pappardelle with truffle and rocket salad and IT WAS ALL SO GOOD.
Medusa (Instagram: @medusamilos): fresh seafood and authentic Greek restaurant on the water. Our favorite dishes were the swordfish and fried feta with honey. It’s very popular so make a reservation if you don’t want to wait.
O hamos: must try, really cute spot for lunch or dinner in Adamas. We got the lamb with cous cous (highly recommend), married chickpeas and the green balsamic salad. It was all really authentic, unique and SO tasty. There’s a beach right across the street that I swam in while we waited for our table (it was so nice to cool off).
Restaurant Volta: casual lunch in Adamas. We got the Greek salad and salmon with rice and really enjoyed both. Don’t go out of your way to go here but it’s a good spot if you’re in the area and looking for something simple.
Avli milos (Instagram: @avli_milos): cute lunch spot for traditional Greek food in Plaka. We didn’t end up eating here but it was on our list of spots to try.
Verina Cocktail Bar (Instagram: @verina_cocktail_bar): really cute cocktail bar with amazing drinks in Plaka (I’d go here over Piazza Castello Cafe if you’re choosing one but it was fun to try both before we went to the Venetian Castle for sunset).
Piazza Castello Cafe (Instagram: @piazzacastellomilos): good spot for a drink in Plaka on the way up to the Venetian castle for sunset. The cucumber mastika drink is really yummy.
I’m kind of shook that I don’t have any coffee spots to recommend but we just kept it easy and got coffee at The Melian every day. A coffee drink I loved getting in Greece (especially in the hot afternoons) was an espresso freddo (cold, frothed espresso) with a little bit of almond or oat milk so if you go to a cafe, I’d definitely recommend trying it.
What to do:
Explore Klima: cute, quaint, colorful fishing village on the water. There’s one restaurant that looks good but other than than that, it’s just a quick stop (like 15-30 minutes) that’s definitely worth seeing or you could come for sunset.
Explore Plaka: really cute town in the hills with tons of bars, shops and cafes. It’s really cute and definitely a must see area. You’ll definitely want at least a few hours to explore this area. Wear comfy shoes because it’s very hilly. You can walk from the main part of town up to the Venetian castle which I highly recommend.
Watch the sunset at The Venetian Castle: this is a must do. the views are incredible and you can make the perfect night out of it by getting drinks/dinner and exploring/shopping in Plaka before or after
Get on a boat: I highly recommend going on a boat in Milos. The water is beautiful and there’s really cool caves and swimming spots that you can’t access by land. We did this Airbnb boat tour experience to Kleftiko caves and loved it.
Go to the magical beaches: there are so many incredible beaches to see and swim at (see our favorites below). this is what we spent most of our time in Milos doing.
Best beaches in Milos, Greece:
These were our favorite beaches but there’s over 70 on the Island so definitely don’t limit yourself to this list if you have more time. We always love asking someone who’s local what they recommend.
Sarakiniko Beach: this was by far my favorite spot in Milos. It was like being on another planet! I’d definitely plan to hang out here for at least an hour to swim, jump off the cliffs and just hang out and take in the magical vibes.
Tsigrado Beach: this beach is super beautiful and relaxing and i’d definitely recommend checking it out. It’s a little tricky to get to because you have to go down 2 ladders, FYI.
Fyriplaka Beach: this is a really beautiful beach to hang out and swim at. There is an obnoxious beach club with loud music so you might not want to spend too much time here (unless you’re into that LOL) but it’s still very much worth going to!
Firopotomas beach: it’s cool to stop by and see it but I would prioritize the other beaches above before going here. It’s not a must see but it is a nice beach to see if you have time!
